Malaysia’s singles stumble at Super 100 while doubles keep home hopes alive

Malaysia’s men’s singles challenge at the Malaysia Super 100 faded quickly at EduCity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri. World No. 45 Justin Hoh fell 10-21, 18-21 in the third round to Indonesia’s Richie Duta, ranked 62nd and only 18, while Eogene Ewe had already exited in the second round against India’s Tushar Suveer. With Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin also beaten by China’s Zhu Xuanchen, the national men’s singles campaign was over earlier than hoped.

The doubles draw offered more encouragement. Sixth seeds Kang Khai Xing and Lok Hong Quan reached the men’s doubles quarter-finals with a 21-17, 21-19 win over Japan’s Takuto Goto and Tsubasa Yoshida, and were set to face Taiwan’s Chen Bo-yuan and Lu Ming-che. On the women’s side, Dania Sofea Zaidi and Tang Zhing Hui also advanced after upsetting higher-ranked opponents, keeping the home contingent in contention.

Justin and Eogene remain among Malaysia’s leading singles prospects behind Leong Jun Hao, so the early exits raise fresh questions about form heading into the rest of the season. Fans will watch whether the doubles pairs can convert their quarter-final berths into deeper runs on home soil.
