BAM to Rework Training Ahead of BWF's 15-Point Scoring Switch

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has little time to dwell on its Asian Games campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, with the BWF set to bring in a 15-point scoring system from January. National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky says the training programme has to be fine-tuned so players are ready for a faster game.

Rexy wants more emphasis on speed endurance, because shorter games are expected to put pressure on players from the first point. He expects the doubles game to change too, becoming more about speed and power.

The Asian Games produced one bronze, from women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah. That matched Malaysia's Hangzhou haul but missed the target of one silver and one bronze. Rexy says the team will sit down and review the campaign to see what needs improving before the next tournaments.
